1861 A Decisive War Medalet. White metal. Musante GW-431, Baker-282. MS-62 (PCGS).，A lovely specimen of this rare medal, the first we have seen in some years. Mostly bright and prooflike, but more so on the reverse than the obverse which was perhaps the more exposed side in the Garrett family cabinets. A bit hairlined under magnification with a few tiny scattered spots, but still very attractive overall. This medal is seen both with the integral hanger as here, and without, but we have not had an example of that without in hand to see if those are lost or a different variant. Either way, this one is completely intact. Typically seen only in the most extensive collections due to the rarity, and this one has been off the market since our 1981 sale of the Garrett holdings.
