Half dollars of this type, distributed to the extent of 26,900 pieces, commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg (which actually did not take place until 1938!). Fought July 1 through 3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and widely regarded as a turning point in the Civil War, the battle is the bloodiest of that conflict and claimed the lives of at least 46,000 Union and Confederate soldiers.，From the A.J.
