AU-55 (NGC).，The olive-bronze patina of this Choice example reveals magenta, indigo, and turquoise iridescence when viewed under a light. Satiny luster bathes the surfaces, imparting a nearly reflective complexion to the fields on each side. Traces of weakness are apparent at the upper regions of the obverse and reverse, though this is typical for the variety. Just the lightest evidence of friction is apparent under a glass, and the eye appeal remains strong. The reverse die is now heavily fatigued, showing extensive cracks around the peripheral elements. Crumbling at the rim is apparent below the eagles left claw and the stem end equivalent to Tompkins Die Stage 3. <p>A pair of AU-58 (NGC) examples top the Condition Census for the variety, including the Farley specimen and the example from Heritages January 2018 FUN Auction, though these are very possibly the same coin. The present delightful piece is then tied for second or third place alongside the AU-55 (NGC) Newman specimen. This piece was last offered in May of 1987 as part of Superiors sale of the Buddy Ebsen Collection, where it was catalogued as "About Uncirculated 58."，From the Sutton Court Collection of Early Half Dollar Varieties.
