1882 Trade Dollar. Proof-66 (NGC).,A handsome specimen, both sides are boldly toned with iridescent lilac and powder blue undertones to dominant lavender-charcoal patina. Fully defined throughout, as befits the method of manufacture, with exceptionally smooth surfaces that are solidly graded at the premium Gem level. Direct lighting calls forth appreciable reflectivity to the finish, which feature further enhances already strong eye appeal. Eagerly sought among both trade dollar specialists and high quality type collectors, the 1882 was produced to the extent of just 1,097 Proofs. A fair number of specimens have survived, however, and the issue appears at auction more frequently than the limited mintage for the date might imply. On the other hand, most survivors grade no finer than Proof-64, a fact that confirms the conditionally rare status of the present example.,,
