1854 Liberty Head Double Eagle. Small Date. AU-58 (PCGS).，A handsome and fully original example with warm rose-orange patina that blends nicely with billowy satin luster. Boldly struck, uncommonly well preserved, and sure to appeal to advanced double eagle enthusiasts. A mintage of 757,899 pieces for this issue represents a significant reduction from the Philadelphia Mints output of double eagles in 1850, 1851, 1852 and 1853. Even so, all five dates are of similar overall rarity in todays market, with the 1851 perhaps a bit more obtainable than the others. Beginning at the AU-55 level, however, the 1854 emerges as by far the scarcest issue among the pre-1855 double eagles from the Philadelphia Mint.，，
