Blair, Nebraska. $10 1902 Red Seal. Fr. 614. The Blair NB. Charter #8027. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. Serial Number 1.,Blair, Nebraska is located a half hour North of Omaha on the Missouri River. Blair first gave national banking a try in 1882 when The First National Bank opened. That bank issued just under 2,500 sheets of $5 brown backs. That entire total is still missing in action. The FNB closed in 1886 and we are still waiting on its discovery note. The towns later bank, The National Bank of Blair, fared slightly better. It opened in 1905 and closed ten years later. In June of 2009 the only surviving example from this charter, #8027, sold for $12,075. That blue seal is a VG with no signatures. Flash forward to late 2017 when this amazing serial number one red seal was discovered and we finally have a note to be proud of. Very little verbiage is needed here. The picture and rarity speak for themselves. This was recently discovered in an estate in the San Francisco Bay area, framed, and literally lying in a closet under a pile of clothes. As best as we can tell, this note made its way from Blair to Los Angeles in the 1920s with a lady who worked at this bank. It eventually made its way to owners with no connection to the bank or Nebraska. This is not the first of a sheet that is slowly being dispersed. It is just an amazing fluke of survival that such a note managed to stay so fresh and so hidden for this long. Past experience has shown that notes like this have a way of getting put away for a long time once they are acquired. The estimate is fair and the note is beautiful; expect some serious competition if you wish to own this trophy national.<p>,,
